Series of porcelain objects, 64 parts
The object series Possibilities, Replacements reproduces in porcelain 64 possible forms of wisdom teeth based on medical photographs. The wisdom tooth is, evolutionarily speaking, a vestigial organ; modern human jawbones often do not provide enough space for them and they are therefore usually extracted. Although (or because) wisdom teeth no longer perform a vital function, they have the most pronounced variations and mutations of all human teeth.
The sculptures comprising Possibilities, Replacements were made in a dental laboratory and, due to their porcelain material, are reminiscent of regular dental prostheses. Their extensive roots and deformations, however, are less practical enhancements, than a painful reminiscence of a our fibre-chewing human past.
