In Accelerate, common orange lichen (rusavskia) that have settled on ballast at abandoned urban rail tracks have been equipped with wheels, suggesting their incorporation into the anthropogenic dynamics and the resulting urge for progress. This speculative approach between lichen and humans is exemplary. Could lichen – with their modest metabolism, slow growth, and expertise in cross-species collaboration – exert positive influence in a human society that seeks paths out of its compulsive dynamics? Or as biologists Gilbert / Sapp / Tauber put it boldly in their recognition of Lynn Margulis concept of the holobiont: "Neither humans nor any other organisms can be regarded as individuals by anatomical criteria.(...) We are all lichen." (Gilbert, Scott /Sapp, Jan /Tauber, Alfred: "A symbiotic view of life. In: The Quarterly Review of biology, Vol. 87, No. 4, Dec 2012, p. 325-341)
